Located in the east of Shenzhen, Yantian District is 12 kilometers away from the city center. It covers an administrative area of 74.64 square kilometers, stretching from Dapeng Bay in the east to Wutong Mountain in the west.

Yantian neighbors Longgang District in the east and north, Luohu District in the west, and New Territories of Hong Kong in the south. Its landform features low mountains, hills and coast.

The latitude and longitude of the district is 22°32′N and 114°13′E. Landscape of the district is higher in the north and lower in the south. Wutong Mountain, at 943.7m, and Meisha Jian, at 753m, stand in the north of the district. The sea area of Dapeng Bay reaches 250 square kilometers and the coastline of the district reaches 19.5 kilometers, a golden coast of Shenzhen and even Guangdong. 6.7 kilometers of the coastline can be used to build deepwater berth.
