Fish Lantern Dancing in Shatoujiao

The Shatoujiao Fish Lantern Festival was held on March 25, 2018, fish-lantern performers and artists from the Shalanxia Village, Shatoujiao brought the unique traditional art form to residents and tourists, showcasing the charm of the intangible cultural heritage.

The fish-lantern dance originated in Shatoujiao of Yantian District during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties (around the 16th and 17th centuries) and enjoys a history of more than 300 years. It is a folk dance that imitates the habits of fish and was created by the ancestors of the Wu clan in Shalanxia Village, Shatoujiao.

Wu Tianyang is a 13th inheritor of the Wu clan and an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage.
