Yantian subvenue of Shenzhen Reading Month opens

The first Yantian Ocean Reading Season was launched and the Yantian subvenue of the 23rd Shenzhen Reading Month raised curtains at the Dameisha Qixi Library on Nov. 9, sznews.com reported.

Revolving around the theme “New Chapter of the Time, New Paradigm for Civilization,” Yantian District is adding elements of marine culture to reading month activities by highlighting five pillars of Ocean Season Reading: ocean spaces, ocean books, ocean-related events, ocean experts and ocean spirit.

According to Yantian District, “ocean spaces” means building and running public reading spaces overlooking seaviews; “ocean books” means organizing book recommendations events such as the Yantian Ocean Books Awards; “ocean-related events” means building brand activities including an ocean culture forum, ocean poetry carnival and an ocean poetry season; “ocean experts”means inviting scholars and writers to form think tanks and hold reading sessions and lectures for the public; and “ocean spirit” means launching a “Belt & Road” Library Alliance and releasing the list of cities that read with Shenzhen.

At the launching ceremony of the first Yantian Ocean Reading Season, the concept and logo of the “ocean reading season” was released along with the list of the first batch of the members in the “ocean reading season” think tank and the list of cities that read with Shenzhen.

Additionally, the “Ocean Library” and “Sea Study Room” were inaugurated. It was reported that from 2023 to 2025, the Yantian District Library (Shenzhen Ocean Library) will focus on building a marine literature resource center, create a platform for marine science and innovation services, promote marine science education in the district, enhance the urban marine reading atmosphere, and promote marine culture at home and abroad in five major areas, in a bid to further explore and spread marine culture and to revitalize Yantian’s cultural brand as a coastal district.
