At the same time, the utilization rate of green courier packaging has increased to 58% and prefabricated buildings account for 47% of new buildings in Shenzhen. Almost all of the city’s new buildings are green buildings.

Currently, the city’s recycling rate of domestic waste has increased from 41% in 2020 to 50%, ranking first among the 46 key cities in China in terms of garbage sorting, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

Moreover, nearly 100% of recyclables from medical and health institutions have been recycled and the utilization of construction waste resources has increased from 13% in 2020 to 28%, the Daily reported.

The city’s domestic waste is now fully incinerated and has achieved zero landfill. Solid waste utilization and disposal capacity was increased to 265,000 tons per day, up by 29% over 2020.

Since 2019 when Shenzhen was selected to pilot waste-free practices, it has deepened reforms on solid waste management and achieved substantial results, the Daily reported.

Last year, Shenzhen was included again in the top ranking for the building of a waste-free city.
