Yantian and HK discuss possibilities to expand cooperation and exchanges

On Feb. 20, the Sha Tau Kok Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumer Cooperation Exchange Meeting, hosted by Yantian District People’s Government, was held in Hong Kong, aiming to further strengthen communication and cooperation as well as trade exchanges between Yantian and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and to jointly advance the transformation of Zhongying Street and elevate Shenzhen-Hong Kong international consumer cooperation to a new height.

This cooperation exchange meeting marked Yantian’s first official visit to and first face-to-face meeting with Hong Kong after the full-scale opening of borders between Shenzhen and Hong Kong resumed Feb. 6.

At the meeting, Yantian District elaborated on the planning and policies for the Sha Tau Kok Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumer Cooperation Zone and introduced its favorable business and investment environment, which will lead to new-round pragmatic cooperation between the two sides.

Deng Feibo, deputy chief of the CPC Yantian District Committee and Yantian’s district mayor, said in his speech that over the past few years Yantian has been vigorously developing industries and pursuing innovation-driven development, and has been leading the city in terms of the growth rate of main economic indicators. Deng added that as cross-border travel has fully resumed, new opportunities would arise between the two cities; therefore, Yantian will keep improving its business environment and rolling out favorable policies to make it convenient for Hong Kong entrepreneurs and young people to start businesses, seek employment, travel and reside in Yantian.

“The Federation of Hong Kong Shenzhen Association will continue playing its ‘liaison’ role in promoting cooperation and exchanges between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, helping Zhongying Street build the Sha Tau Kok Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumer Cooperation Zone, and drawing on each other’s strengths to boost enterprise cooperation, trade exchanges, and innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Tang Ching Ho, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Shenzhen Association, and chairman of the board of directors of the Wang On Group.

At the event, Li Qiangqiang, Yantian’s deputy district mayor, introduced the changes in economic development, people’s well-being and industrial policies in Yantian District in recent years, and shared information regarding the planning and construction of Zhongying Street and of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumer Cooperation Zone in Sha Tau Kok. He said that in the future the cooperation zone will serve as a leader for Hong Kong and Shenzhen characteristic consumption, as a linkage area of international shipping center, and as a new benchmark of high-quality development, providing new opportunities for further cooperation and development between Shenzhen and Hong Kong; the future Zhongying Street will become a leading international consumption center with unique features and a new model of integration and development of joint construction and governance between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
