The highly anticipated 15th China Cup International Regatta (CCIR) 2023 is scheduled to take place from tomorrow to Monday, with 1,200 competitors representing more than 30 countries and regions.

The prestigious event will feature over 200 sailboats cruising through the waters of Daya Bay in Dapeng New Area.

Having successfully hosted 14 previous editions, CCIR has established itself as a leading regatta. The event is a result of collaborative efforts involving government departments, social institutions, and organizations from Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

This year, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong rally racing, which has been suspended for three years, is making a comeback. Rally racing has been a crucial element of CCIR since the regatta’s inception in 2007. A total of 36 international teams have registered to compete in the race.

The race route, running from Hebe Haven in Hong Kong to Shenzhen, is dubbed the “golden racing track” by World Sailing, the governing body for sailing worldwide. Sailors on this route will have the opportunity to navigate through various islands with breathtaking views.

Another highlight of this year’s competition is the presence of renowned international judges and race officers. Simon James, a technical officer of World Sailing, and David Brookes, a seasoned judge, have been invited to bring their expertise to the event. A diverse panel of judges from China, the U.K., Germany, Australia, Malaysia, and other countries will contribute to maintaining the competition’s high standards.

Furthermore, the 2023 CCIR will feature 11 categories, including the unique TP52 category. According to Zhong Yong, the deputy secretary-general of the CCIR Committee, TP52 is considered one of the most challenging categories in the world of regatta sports, thanks to the remarkable speed exhibited by the participating sailboats.

In an exciting twist, sailboats decorated with Chinese elements will compete alongside other vessels during the regatta. Following the competition, a range of sailing activities will be held in Shenzhen to ignite local residents’ enthusiasm for the sport of sailing.
