Shenzhen reported a new asymptomatic case of COVID-19, the local health authority said Thursday.

The infected, a 38-year-old Briton, departed Germany with his wife, son and daughter Oct. 6. They arrived in Guangzhou on Oct. 7 and all tested negative for COVID-19 upon entry.

The family was first isolated for observation in Guangzhou. As both children were under the age of 14, the man applied for home quarantine in their residence in Shenzhen, which was approved by relevant governmental departments.

They were transferred to their residence in The Peninsula residential estate in Nanshan District in Shenzhen under closed-loop management Oct. 10 for home quarantine, and were managed by the epidemic prevention and control team of the local community.

They did not leave home during the quarantine, health officials said. The man was tested positive for the virus Tuesday and the reviewed result released by the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday was also positive.

He was later sent to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

His wife and two children, who have all tested negative for the virus, have been put under quarantine for further observation. Another 12 contacts have been tested negative and their health conditions will be monitored.

As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, 963 samples from residents of The Peninsula and local community workers had been collected, all of which tested negative.
