A total of 120 residents in Shenzhen were bitten by poisonous bugs in late March. Meanwhile, in the first eight days of April, 48 residents were stung by venomous insects, Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital said.

A woman surnamed Li was bitten by a bug while taking a picture of roadside flowers.

In another case, a man’s wrist turned black with necrosis after he was stung by an unknown bug while sweeping tombs this Qingming Festival. His five fingers got swollen.

Zeng Zhongyi, Shenzhen TCM Hospital emergency department director, said that most patients with bug bites showed mild symptoms such as swelling and itching.

Others might have necrosis. Full-body rash and itching, even an anaphylactic shock can occur to people with allergies, according to Zeng.

Those with mild symptoms can use soap water or clean water to clean bite wounds and then apply ointments like dexamethasone acetate or Mometasone Furoate Gel for instant relief.

However, when showing serious symptoms, patients are advised to go to a hospital immediately. They can take some anti-allergy medicine before going to the hospital.

Doctors also suggest residents not sit directly on the grass to avoid possible poisonous bites by ants, venomous spiders, centipedes, scorpions, rove-beetles and ticks.

In addition, the hospital saw some cases of citizens bitten by poisonous wasps. The wasps like flying into clothes hung on balconies. Doctors thus advise residents to pay close attention to their clothes before wearing them.

At the same time, some 14 patients went to Shenzhen TCM Hospital because of snake bites in just half a month, according to the report.

If bitten by a snake, citizens should leave the area immediately and go to a hospital for treatment.
