Shenzhen reports 2 local confirmed COVID-19 cases

Shenzhen reported two local confirmed cases of COVID-19 during regular citywide screenings of the virus.

The first case is a 29-year-old male who lives in Buji Community in Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District, and works in Luohu District. He tested positive in a regular screening yesterday and also tested positive in a reviewed nucleic acid test by the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention today.

The second case is a 29-year-old female who works in Longgang District. She is the wife of the first case. She tested positive for COVID-19 today during a nucleic acid test for close contacts of the first case, and the reviewed nucleic acid test result released by the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention was also positive.

The two cases have been transferred to the emergency wards of the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen for treatment. Nucleic acid tests for their close contacts citywide are under way.

According to the city authority, people will be required to produce a negative nucleic acid test result issued within 48 hours prior to leaving Shenzhen starting today.

Residents are reminded to take personal precautions against the virus by wearing face masks in public places, washing hands frequently, maintaining good ventilation and observing social distancing.
