The Zhongying Street supercharging station in the core area of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumption Cooperation Zone has been officially put into operation, further easing charging access for cross-border visitors and promoting green travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The site was originally built and put into service in 2019 as a slow-charging facility by China Southern Power Grid’s Shenzhen Yantian Power Supply Bureau.

With extended border crossing hours for Zhongying Street and continued upgrades to on-site businesses in 2024, the former chargers could no longer meet rapidly growing demand. In response to the city’s “Supercharger City” initiative, the Yantian bureau carried out a comprehensive upgrade of the facility.

Located just before the Zhongying Street checkpoint, the station serves an area with dense visitor and vehicle flows. To minimize disruption during construction, the power bureau scheduled work during off-peak hours, strengthened traffic guidance and site protections, and deployed mechanized equipment such as new capstans to speed up cable laying and reduce construction time.

According to Huang Yufeng, a second-level specialist in comprehensive planning and management at the Yantian bureau’s engineering department, the upgraded station is now equipped with one 600 kW liquid-cooled ultra-fast charger, four 360 kW dual-gun fast chargers and 10 42 kW chargers. During peak periods, the facility is expected to serve more than 100 vehicles per day.
