On the Chinese mainland, there are three communication providers: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, they provide both mobile communication and landline phone system.
China Mobile and China Unicom are elder mobile communication suppliers. Many people choose China Mobile because the signal is stronger and smoother, but the shortage is that China Mobile is unable to provide 3G signal, thus causing low network connection speed. China Unicom provides 3G signal and makes it a great partner to smartphones, but its signal is unstable which means you would lost it in the remote areas, elevators or underground.
China Telecom used to be a provider of landline phone system, and only joined in the market of mobile communication in the past few years. It offers 3G signal as well. But it must be equipped with CDMA mobile phones which you only can buy from China Telecom.
