From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2025-08-22

The Growth Library of Yantian District has been named the global runner-up in the 10th International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Green Library Award, organized by the Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section (ENSULIB). The announcement was made on August 19, 2025, at the World Library and Information Congress in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The library earned second place in the “Best Green Library/Grand Scale Project” category, standing out from 41 entries across 22 countries and becoming the only Asian winner in this category. The award recognizes the project’s achievements in sustainable design, community engagement, and long-term environmental stewardship.

Located in Dameisha Biosphere No. 3 in Yantian District, the library leverages the district’s mountain-and-sea setting and was developed through a collaborative model described as “government-led + enterprise co-building + public participation,” emphasizing cross-sector cooperation and grassroots involvement.

By integrating ecological site planning, sustainable design practices, and inclusive programming, the Growth Library has become a model for green transformation in public cultural services.
