On October 31, the Tianxin Community Senior Service Station in Yantian District officially opened, unveiling the district’s first smart senior restaurant.

The facility is designed to address elderly residents’ meal-time challenges while using technology to provide “smart meal assistance,” turning a simple hot meal into a more dignified, nutritious dining experience.

The restaurant’s bright, welcoming interior and neatly arranged seating emphasize comfort and respect for older diners.

Technology is embedded throughout the dining process: after selecting dishes, patrons place their trays in an intelligent checkout area where an automated system recognizes the items and displays the total amount due. Multiple convenient payment methods are accepted, including WeChat and bank cards.

A nutrition display terminal shows real-time data on each meal’s calorie and protein content, helping seniors make informed choices. The restaurant covers about 750 square meters and can serve roughly 300 meals daily.

Menus rotate with 25–30 daily dishes priced between 5 yuan and 30 yuan, and set meals in the 18–30 yuan range will be introduced to broaden options.

Seniors aged 70 and above are eligible for a 5 yuan meal subsidy, making a typical lunch—two meat dishes, one vegetable and a soup—cost as little as 13 yuan.

By combining affordability, nutrition transparency, and smart convenience, the initiative aims to make daily dining simpler, healthier, and more enjoyable for local elderly residents.
