Shenzhen Metro begins trial runs on Line 8 Phase 3

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2025-11-07

Shenzhen Metro began a timetable trial for Line 8 Phase 3 on Nov. 1, integrating the new Phase 3 segment with the existing through operation of Lines 2 and 8.

During the trial, Lines 2 & 8 trains between Chiwan and Xiaomeisha will continue to carry passengers, while the Phase 3 extension from Xiaomeisha to Xichong will operate empty test trains and will be closed to passengers. This means trains terminating at Xiaomeisha will continue to Xichong without passengers and will only take on passengers again upon returning to Xiaomeisha.

Metro officials say peak-hour service intervals on the existing Lines 2 and 8 will remain unchanged throughout the trial, though the first and last train times may be slightly adjusted. Passengers are advised to check Shenzhen Metro’s official announcements or consult station staff for updated schedules.

Passengers should note that service beyond Xiaomeisha toward Xichong is not yet available; passengers on Lines 2 and 8 must disembark at Xiaomeisha Station.

Station signage and on-train displays along Lines 2 and 8 are being updated to include information about the new section as part of preparations for its future opening.

Shenzhen Metro said the trial runs are intended to validate system performance, train operations and passenger information systems, ensuring a smooth transition when the Phase 3 extension officially opens to passengers.
