The Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce announced its 2025 list of “Happy shopping towns” on Dec. 12, naming 34 towns and streets across the province after a process of local nomination, expert evaluation, and comprehensive review. Each chosen locality demonstrated strong brand recognition and a solid industrial or retail foundation in its field.
Among the honorees is Zhongying Street in Yantian District, recognized for its unique duty‑free trading advantages. As the only area on the mainland directly connected to Hong Kong by both land and water, Zhongying Street has long been a leading destination for visitors to Shenzhen, offering a rare opportunity to experience Shenzhen and Hong Kong side by side.
The street’s retail landscape blends long‑established Hong Kong brands with well‑known chain stores, and its favorable duty‑free pricing has become a major draw for shoppers. In recent years, Zhongying Street has significantly upgraded its offerings, staging more than 200 cultural and tourism events annually and recording peak single‑day visitor flows exceeding 40,000.
Beyond shopping, Zhongying Street has broadened its appeal with cultural attractions such as a local history museum, art exhibitions, Shenzhen–Hong Kong cultural salons, and themed markets, creating fresh experiences for repeat visitors.
Local authorities say the street is being developed into a model shopping district characterized by deep historical and cultural roots, strong Shenzhen–Hong Kong flair, and distinctive coastal features — positioning Zhongying Street as both a cultural landmark and a premier retail destination in Guangdong.
