Hiker falls off cliff, rescued overnight by Yantian firefighters

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2025-06-10

A man was rescued late at night after falling off a cliff while hiking in a remote mountain in Yantian District.

Firefighters received an emergency call reporting that a hiker had tumbled down a small cliff near a waterfall in the Yunshen area of Shatoujiao, close to a security checkpoint near the Tiger Stream. The man was seriously injured and in urgent need of help.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, but the steep terrain and darkness made the mission extremely difficult. Firefighters had to scale rugged mountain trails to reach the injured man, who was found unconscious with visible head injuries, bleeding from his ears, abnormal pupils, a fractured thigh, and lower back trauma.

The area where he fell was extremely narrow — surrounded by mountains on three sides and a sheer drop — leaving no room for a stretcher and posing a constant risk of another fall.

To prevent further injury, rescuers secured the man with safety ropes and stayed with him to keep him stable. Due to the challenging conditions, they called in a helicopter from Eastern General Aviation for support. With no place to land because of dense forest and rough terrain, the helicopter hovered while medical personnel were lowered to the ground by winch.

Once on-site, medics quickly assessed and stabilized the patient. The man was then carefully lifted into the helicopter and flown to the hospital. He is currently undergoing further treatment.
