Enshang Wetland — Shenzhen’s 'Altay' emerges as a new eco-tourism draw in Yantian

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2025-09-19

Nestled halfway up the mountains of Yantian and forming an integral part of the Guangdong Wutong Mountain National Forest Park, Enshang Wetland has quietly won praise from visitors and netizens alike as the city’s own “Altay.”

The compact wetland park blends rolling lawns, ancient trees, reflective waters and mountain-backdropped sea views into a striking mountain-sea tableau.

Visitors strolling the park’s green lawns encounter a pastoral atmosphere seldom expected in an urban district. A wooden boardwalk meanders through the wetland, guiding guests across varied habitats where egrets and other waterbirds are often seen tracing elegant arcs above the water.

The site’s varied vegetation and calm waters make it a notable pocket of biodiversity and a popular spot for nature photography and weekend relaxation.

The wetland park's landmark is the Wutong Pavilion, a pure-white viewing structure that, from a distance, has been likened to a UFO in the forest and up close to a soft dandelion—an instantly photogenic element that frames sweeping views of Yantian Port.

On clear days, visitors can watch an ever-changing scene of clouds, distant mountains, and cargo ships merge into a layered coastal panorama.

Local tourism officials and park managers say Enshang Wetland’s combination of ease of access, scenic diversity and tranquil atmosphere positions it well as a growing destination for short escapes and ecological education.

As Shenzhen continues to develop urban green spaces, Enshang Wetland is fast becoming a showcase for how mountains and marine elements can coexist as attractions within the city.
