In the heat of summer and amid the buzzing chorus of cicadas, three art exhibitions are awaiting visitors at the Shalanxia Cultural Center on Zhongying Street. Featuring folk handicrafts, photography, and Chinese-style paintings, the series offers a diverse cultural experience for all ages.

Printmaking exhibition and workshop (through Aug. 9)

This exhibition showcases printmaking works created by students from the century-old Donghe Primary School. In addition to the static display, a printmaking workshop allows visitors to observe the entire creative process — from plate engraving to ink rolling and print rubbing.

Guests can also try their hand at making their own Zhongying Street-themed prints under the guidance of instructors. This workshop is an ideal choice for family educational outings and hands-on summer activities.

Photography exhibition (Aug. 10–19)

This exhibition presents photographs of Zhongying Street captured over the years, including bustling old street markets, the traditional Chinese-style pagoda, scenic coastal promenades, and ancient banyan trees that have witnessed a century of change.

Painting exhibition (Aug. 20–31)

This exhibition brings together hand-drawn works by young creators. Featuring traditional Chinese architecture, century-old banyan trees, and local alleyways, the pieces are rendered in healing art styles that are both playful and deeply rooted in Chinese aesthetics.

All three exhibitions are free and open to the public, with no reservation required.

To enter Zhongying Street, visitors must bring a valid ID and apply for a Shatoujiao Border Management Zone Permit either in advance or on-site. Online reservations are available via the WeChat official account or the miniprogram of “i盐田.”
