The world's first 24,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel mega vessel, the OOCL Wisdom, made its maiden call at Yantian Port recently. As the largest vessel of its kind globally, the Chinese-built container ship represents the pinnacle of advanced green shipbuilding technology.

Measuring 399.99 meters long, 61.3 meters wide, and 33.2 meters in depth, the ship has a maximum deadweight tonnage of approximately 225,000 tonnes. When fully loaded, its height is comparable to that of a 22-story residential building. With a maximum capacity of 24,168 TEU, it is the world's largest methanol dual-fuel container ship. Equipped with the largest methanol dual-fuel main engine, auxiliary engines, and boilers, the ship can switch flexibly between methanol and conventional fuel oil during navigation.
The vessel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 150,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to the carbon-sequestering effect of planting 820,000 trees. It also emits nearly zero sulfur oxide and significantly less nitrogen oxide than conventional vessels.
In the past, methanol-fueled vessels could not match the capacity of conventional container ships due to their bulky fuel tanks. However, the OOCL Wisdom achieves capacity comparable to that of top-tier conventional container ships through optimized hull design, spatial reconfiguration, and a comprehensive power system upgrade.
To ensure the smooth maiden call, Yantian International coordinated closely with port inspection authorities in advance, ensuring efficient berthing and loading operations.

The OOCL Wisdom loaded nearly 5,000 TEU at Yantian, carrying Chinese-made goods to major European ports. Part of the cargo was transported via Yantian International's rail-sea intermodal service, reaching Yantian Port directly from a factory in Chengdu within two days.
In recent years, leveraging its strategic location, deep-water harbor, advanced equipment, and efficient services, Yantian International has provided stable and efficient berthing for ultra-large vessels worldwide. Currently, it operates around 100 weekly shipping routes connecting to global destinations.
The first phase of the Yantian Port East Operation Area, with an investment exceeding 10 billion yuan, is currently under construction. The first two berths, which passed the project completion acceptance inspection in July, are expected to be commissioned before the end of this year.
