THE 2024 Zero Waste Day public activity, advanced by the Vanke Foundation, the Zero Waste Hub, and the Shenzhen One Foundation, has been widely promoted nationwide.

A total of 184 NGOs, enterprises, schools, and government agencies from 73 cities in 26 provinces participated in the event, which received support from the U.N. Habitat China Office.

To promote the concept of zero-waste and encourage more people to take action, the Vanke Foundation, in collaboration with the cities of Xi’an, Qingdao, Baotou, Changchun, and Wuhan, launched online and in-person activities during a ceremony marking its 7th annual Zero Waste Day on Saturday designed to encourage the public to reuse old household materials and adopt a low-carbon lifestyle in line with the three Rs principle of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

At the main venue at the Dameisha Vanke Center, the Vanke Foundation presented visitors with a themed saloon on waste management, an exhibition on art created from waste, and a fair displaying products like decorations made from recycled waste.

“Through the exhibition, we want to show the visitors, and the general public as well, how the waste we discarded in daily life was turned into artistic products and how to practice a zero-waste daily routine, from clothing, food, and shelter to transportation,” said Han Lili, curator of the exhibition.

The Vanke Foundation and its partners launched Zero Waste Day in 2018 to strengthen the public’s understanding of the concept of zero waste.
