Recently, a man who collapsed in the elevator of his housing estate in Meisha Subdistrict, Yantian, was rescued after the estate's management reacted swiftly to the emergency.

At 10:08 a.m. on Aug. 21, at Shuiyunjian housing estate, Binhai Community, the man suddenly fell ill and collapsed unconscious as he stepped out of an elevator.

A fellow passenger held him up and then laid him flat. Cai Chaohong, an electrician on duty at the estate's monitoring center, saw what had happened through the surveillance system and rushed to the scene to maintain order. He also notified property supervisor Wu Yingyuan at once.

When Wu arrived, the resident who had collapsed still had faint consciousness and was breathing, but his condition quickly took a sharp turn for the worse. Within minutes, his breathing became so weak that no obvious rise and fall could be observed in his abdomen.

Wu determined that the man had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, for which the first four minutes are critical for successful resuscitation. He called the 120 emergency hotline immediately, accurately reporting the location and the patient's condition.

Under the remote guidance of the 120 dispatcher, Wu raced against time to perform CPR compressions on the resident.

Wu continued CPR until medical staff arrived and took over, using an AED to help the patient regain spontaneous breathing and heartbeat. The patient was then rushed to Yantian District People's Hospital for further treatment. He has now recovered and been discharged.

The man and his family, deeply grateful, made a special trip to the property management office to express their thanks.

Before this emergency, Wu had taken part in a first-aid certification training program organized by Binhai Community.

"This experience has again taught me the importance of getting first-aid training," Wu said, adding that he will try to receive further training and stay prepared to better serve the residents in his community.
